A Message to Counsellors and Therapists in the UK from Martin Hogg.
Birmingham UK
You Became a Counsellor to Change Lives, not to get bogged down in administration or live month to month, paycheck to paycheck.
The Good News? You don’t need a business or marketing degree to succeed.
READ ON BELOW ⬇️
Let’s get real. You’ve spent years honing your Therapy skills; you spent countless hours on assignments and made it through your placement making a meaningful impact on your clients.
But…
when it comes to building a Private Practice that feels full, stable, and deeply rewarding, it can all feel overwhelming. Finding the right clients for you, clients who genuinely value your work and who you enjoy working with, shouldn’t be a struggle—but often, it is.
Choosing the right clients for you that match the work you enjoy the most is the key to Building a Practice You Love.
What if growing your practice felt as natural and fulfilling as your work with your clients?
But there’s another benefit…
Beware, elephant in the room…
More of the right clients = Better income.
Don’t you agree with me, a counsellor should be making £50,000 a year minimum?
If you made more money from your Private Practice, what would you do with all that extra money?
Maybe take the kids to Disneyland, sail out in search of the Northern Lights, take a long retreat or maybe refurbish your house?
Your Training Focused on Helping Clients, Not Running a Business. Counsellor training programs are designed to give you the skills to support clients. But rarely, if ever, do they cover the essentials of marketing, business management, or how to consistently get clients through the door. So, if you’re feeling unprepared to handle the business side of private practice, it’s not because you’re lacking in talent or dedication. It’s because those vital skills weren’t part of your training.
Many skilled therapists feel frustrated or overwhelmed when it comes to business and marketing—but that’s where Grow My Practice comes in. This course bridges the gap between your counselling expertise and the practical tools you need to build a financially stable, thriving practice.
Imagine waking up to a full diary of clients who value what you offer, clients who show up, commit, and trust you. Growing your practice doesn’t have to mean following tactics that feel pushy, unnatural or unethical. Instead, this program, made by counsellors for counsellors, is designed to help you find clients in a way that aligns with your values and feels authentic.
Here’s how we’ll do it together:
Connect with Your Ideal Clients – Identify and attract the people who truly need your unique skills and feel like the right fit for you.
Showcase Your Strengths – Stand out by embracing what makes you you—no ‘one size fits all’ approach here.
Keep It Simple, Keep It Real – Practical strategies that fit into your life, without taking time away from the work you love.

are a great fit for my practice. I finally feel like I can grow in a way that
works for me.”

Worried About Feeling Pushy or ‘Salesy’? We Get It.
It’s completely natural to feel hesitant about “putting yourself out there.” For many counsellors, promoting yourself feels strange, even uncomfortable. But promoting your practice doesn’t have to mean “selling.”
It’s simply letting the people who need your help know you’re there for
them.
We’re here to help you make that feel easy and true to who you are.
Who Am I?
I’m Martin Hogg, a BACP registered member with a master’s degree in business, but to be honest, nothing beats nearly twenty years in the trenches of actually running a Private Practice.
In those early years, I navigated the ups and downs of building a thriving counselling practice.
Other Counsellors, tutors and supervisors told me
’Forget your previous business life, you’re a counsellor now’
They said
"You have to do your time then, let people find you’
They suggested more volunteering, even though I was qualified and competent.
One company even offered low paid work that barely covered the cost of the room they rented me.
Laughable.
They were wrong times have changed, it wasn’t right then and it isn’t right now!
But joke not!
Fast forward twenty years, many counsellors have told me
that they are earning less than £20 an hour working for online providers…
As a Counsellor you don’t have to be exploited anymore.
Let’s choose to shut out people’s negativity and pessimism.
Let’s choose to ignore those who snigger at the thought of us setting up a Private Practice.
You will be the one who will be laughing when you have a busy practice making you a consistently higher income.
(Remind me to tell you the story one day of when my old boss
said, ‘You’ll be back, everybody always comes back’. I didn’t go back.)
The truth is that Private Practice Counselling is competitive. There are 90,000 members in the BACP alone now, admittedly not all in Private Practice but what if…
You must stand out or starve.
NB: There is no shortage of potential clients, by the way.
I figured out how to attract the clients who were the best match for me, clients who truly value what I offer so that I could create a sustainable, fulfilling Private Practice that brings out the best in me.
I remember exactly what it was like to feel uncertain about growing my practice, and I can tell you, if I knew then what I know now! I would have got to where I am a lot faster!
Through my own journey, I developed a Private Practice Blueprint, now available to you, if you’re the right fit for it: Grow My Practice.
It’s a ‘profit with purpose’ approach to attracting clients—a method that allows you to focus on what you’re passionate about while ensuring your business thrives and you earn the income you deserve.
And I don’t just teach these strategies; I live them.
Everyday.
Now, I’m here to share the insights and tools that have helped me grow my own successful practice with counsellors like you who are ready to make a bigger impact by helping more people. I have grown my counselling business to over £1.2 million in this year, with a team of Private Practice counsellors working with me. I say that not to brag but to illustrate
this programme has not just worked for me but for many others too.
Isn’t it time you had your ‘slice of the pie’?

Q: Who is This Program For and Not For?
A: This program is for counsellors and therapists who are passionate about making a real impact and ready to grow a practice that reflects their values. It’s designed for professionals who: Seek a Profit with Purpose approach – If you want to attract clients authentically without feeling “salesy,” this program is for you.
Are committed to their growth – Whether you’re just starting or looking to expand an established practice, you’re willing to invest time and energy into creating a practice you love.
Want a clear, supportive path – If you feel overwhelmed by the business side of things, we’ll simplify it so you can focus on what you do best: helping people.
This program is not for counsellors and therapists looking for quick fixes or gimmicky marketing tactics. It is not a get-rich-quick programme. It’s also for those who are hesitant to make real changes in how they approach their practice.
My focus is on long-term, sustainable growth that’s aligned with your values—not shortcuts.
You need to learn and then implement.
This is not for you if you join programmes, don’t do the work, don’t attend the training, don’t implement the strategies, and then complain that nothing has happened.
This is not a place for whingers.
If you’re ready to explore a new way to build your practice and connect with clients who genuinely value your work, let’s talk.

Q: "I just don’t have the time for this."
A: I hear you. Your days are busy enough without adding “marketing” to the list.
That’s why we focus on simple, practical actions that fit seamlessly into your schedule.
We’ll help you make adjustments that have a BIG impact like small hinges swinging huge doors, so you have more time for the work that truly matters.
A: I won’t lie; this course requires an investment, but not a ridiculous one.
It's probably equivalent to one extra client session a week.
Surely that’s achievable.
Investing in your practice can feel daunting, especially if it’s been a while since you last did so. But think of this as an investment in reaching clients who value your work.
Growing a client base with aligned clients can often mean a return on investment many times over, not only in income but in the fulfilment, you feel each day. Once you discover these methods you have them for a lifetime.
Q: “I am not sure how I feel about making more money as a Counsellor?
A: There’s often a strange dynamic between Counsellors and money: they want to help people but sometimes neglect their own needs. Self-care is essential, and part of that is earning enough money so that you have a good life. It’s more than not feeling burned out or run ragged. It’s a bit like when you have the safety demonstration before your flight takes off- ‘put your own oxygen mask on before helping others’
Q: "I’m worried about spending the money if I don’t get results."
A: This program is built on tried-and-true strategies that work. By investing in yourself, you’re building a foundation that helps you now and strengthens your practice for years to come. And if you’re unsure, we offer a free Practice Strategy Call—apply now to discuss your goals, concerns, and best path forward. One extra client session a week normally pays for the programme.
Q: Can I Work One-on-One with You Instead of Joining the Group?
A: Absolutely, one-on-one sessions are available! While the group program offers weekly contact with me, a supportive community, a growing library of resources and shared insights that many find invaluable, I do work with a few clients individually. If you prefer a more personalised approach, we can work together one-on-one. The cost for private coaching is £2,200 per month, which includes access to the library of resources and a weekly 60-minute Coaching Impact Session focused solely on your practice. If you’re interested in a private session, this may be the right fit. The minimum commitment is three months.
Q: "I feel like an imposter—who am I to promote myself?"
A: So many counsellors feel this way. But promoting yourself isn’t about “selling out.” It’s about ensuring that the people who need your skills know how to find you. If you have the expertise to help people, then you owe it to them to be visible. And we’ll guide you on how to do this in a way that feels true to who you are.
Q: "What if it doesn’t work for me?"
A: This isn’t a one-size-fits-all program. Every step is designed to customise to your unique strengths and goals, and you’re never alone in the process- we meet every week, and we can even communicate every day! Plus, with our community of counsellors on similar journeys, you’ll have support every step of the way. They are so great at giving feedback and encouraging each other. I am in the Community everyday answering your questions and giving feedback.
